Another name of hematite is red iron ore, and the main component is Fe₂O₃. It is a kind of weak magnetic iron ore, its floatability is better than magnetite. It is one of the most important materials when smelting iron.

The main ways of sorting ore have gravity separation, intensity magnetic separation, floatation separation or mixed ways. The previous way of sorting hematite adopts gravity separation, the equipments include jigger, centrifugal separator, spiral chute, screw separator, shaking table, etc. because of low capacity, low grade, low recovery rate, this way is substitute by floatation separation and intensity magnetic separation. The positive floatation separation use oxide paraffin soap as collector and the intensity magnetic separation use magnetic flat ring separation. But the results are not very satisfied.

In recent years, the technology has developed rapidly. The main way of beneficiation take the electromagnetic impulse high gradient separator and reverse floatation separation as representation. Especially the intensity magnetic separation mixed with floatation separation make the hematite reach the grate of iron concentrate, and the recovery rate is satisfactory.

Process flow of sorting hematite:

Crude ore→jaw crusher→circular vibrating screen→ball mill→screw classifier→blender→magnetic separator.
